The Allure of Instant Gratification

This is a perennial question on the lips of many! That is everybody who perceives value as something beyond the material. Some “subscribe” to the material means more than others. This is nothing new. Eventually, we all come to the same realisation. The material gratification is perishable and ephemeral! Whilst the immaterial is eternal and fulfils the spirit!

Why then do we still seek instant gratification via “material-means”?

The answer is rather simple. Humans are creatures of habit and comfort. Many (most of us) will follow a path that satisfies our immediate cravings. In particular, the one which does not clash with our habits if possible.

Developing a craving for instant material gratification is a very expensive habit! Many people cannot see through their haze of vices before it is too late. There is a direct correlation between one’s ability to create, earn, and provide and one’s downfall!

On the other side of the argument, we have the habit itself and many other vices that grow over time! In contrast, what does not grow with time is one’s ability to meet one’s desires. In fact, with time the desire for more material means grows! One’s ability to provide the funds (via legal means) to meet the cravings diminishes!

People who are not prepared to re-evaluate their life choices on time usually descend into a life of crime! Some make a comeback either through the support of family or faith!

Many others are not so lucky, paying a very hefty price for their allure. They lose their sanity. We live in a material world, and we all have certain tastes and expensive habits. This does not make us amoral people or criminals.
